While in Cambodia, two of our Team 144 female instructors were given the opportunity to visit a safehouse for victims of sex trafficking. The women and young girls there had been rescued from horrific circumstances. Some awaited their day in court to testify against their attackers, while others were in transition after already having done so. The stories they shared would shake anyone to the core.
Our instructors said that as soon as they entered the home, a sense of urgency fell upon them. With only two hours to train these survivors, they felt an overwhelming desire to share as much as they could in that short time. Alongside this urgency, they described the home as being filled with the Spirit of the Lord.
As they taught these women and girls how to protect themselves, tears streamed down their faces. They could see a flicker of hope in the survivors' eyes—hope that slowly transformed into determination. One little girl, no older than five, still with her baby teeth, stood out. She threw some of the most perfect elbows they had ever seen, her eyes filled with the fire of “I will fight back.”
They later learned that this little girl had just been rescued from an attacker and was preparing to testify in court. The instructors shared how this two-hour session changed their lives forever. They realized that the five and a half years they had spent training to become Level 3 Krav Maga instructors was for this very moment—the moment when they could equip one of God's sheep, attacked and wounded by the wolf, to be healed. But not just healed—prepared to fight back if the wolf ever dared to return.
We believe that God has called us to travel the world, bringing hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, and giving victims the permission to FIGHT BACK.
